Season's Greetings

The project used collaborative play as an illustrative method to repurpose and re-contextualise visual materials from the Laura Seddon Collection of Victorian and Edwardian greeting cards (MMU Special Collections). Workshop participants played with extracted pieces to construct “characters” and together formed small theatrical interactions or narratives. In this way, they simultaneously learned about the collection and were challenged to closely examined its values and history instead of solely appreciating its visual aesthetics.
It also served as a test for using collaborative play and art making as a research method and a tool for conveying marginalised narratives in cultural artefacts.
